Welcome to my little corner of the web

Welcome to the Robin's Nest. This site is dedicated to presenting progressive policy ideas and giving them better exposure. A major goal is to improve the exposure grassroots policy initiatives, and to promote these ideas and gain broader exposure by working with journalists, elected officials and celebraties.

We will present the best ideas from leading progressive research and advocacy institutions. We will promote other progressive websites. We well publishe original content and allow our visitors to present initiatives for inclusion in our promotional efforts.

We hope to strengthen democratic participation by providing a more inclusive and intelligible debate about the issues that shape our world.

If you, like me, are upset over the almost nightly TV pictures of the body bags coming off the military transports at Dover AFB in Delaware, jump in and lets see if we can make things better.

Oh, gee whizz, they're not letting us see them. I wonder: why?

Depleted uranium: Dirty bombs, dirty missiles, dirty bullets

Why we should trust the government-NOTAt an April press conference, a group of New York Army National Guard vets raised their hands when asked if they have health problems. The soldiers, all from the 442nd Military Police Company, are complaining of headaches and fatigue after what they think is exposure to depleted uranium during their recent tour in Iraq.

Its The Economy StupidBush inherited a projected $5.6 trillion ten-year surplus. That $5.6 trillion surplus is now a $5.2 trillion ten-year deficit -- a fiscal decline of $10.8 trillion in just three years. [Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, 1/28/04; www.govexec.com, 1/29/04]

 Herman Goering

Kerrville Folk FestivalHerman Goering at his Nuremberg trial in 1946 said: “Naturally, the common people don’t want war…but, after all it’s the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship…Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”

 ann coulter

Kerrville Folk FestivalA new T-shirt depicts Ann Coulter to the Nazis, and the advertising copy compares her to Nazi propagandameister Goebbels, and Miniluv has its girdle in a knot about the advertisement at Daily Kos. Apparently, depicting Coulter as a Nazi isn't very classy. But I think that Coulter and her ilk may be closer to Nazism than we think ... or at least exploit the same brand of hatred that Hitler et. al. exploited on their way to power.
Before we get to Ms. Coulter, I'd like to start with exhibit A: Inspired by a story at the Drudge Report, conservatives sent comedian Margaret Cho a large dose of hate mail.
I won't bother to repeat Ms. Cho's anti-Bush comments or the various racist replies she received here. You can go read them at Ms. Cho's Web site or the Drudge Report if you like. But their content is instructive.
Drudge's incredibly influential posting apparently inspired a level of hatred not usually seen outside of meetings that involve white sheets and hoods. Racial epithets, insults about Ms. Cho's weight, invitations to go back to Korea, all sorts of invective.

I'm mad as hell, and speaking out

Our Leader Regime Change Begins at HomeI am really tired or what is being done in my name.

New video footage showing Iraqis celebrating a desert wedding raised more questions Monday about a U.S. air strike last week that killed about 40 people.

film was shot Monday, May 17. Drummer Basem Ishab Mohammad, 26, said he was the only band member to survive the U.S. attack

a musician playing an electric organ. The same man later appeared dead in a shroud.

What is the world coming to?

Our Leader Regime Change Begins at HomeI really despise Fidel. But based on what is being reported in the attached article, I think we should give him a medal.

He may be a brutal dictator, but from what I have heard, despite very many shortcomings, Cuba has adequate healthcare and education.

He's got a few things right:

  • Bush-a fraudulently elected leader trying to impose "world tyranny".
  • United States "ighting wars of conquest to seize the markets and resources of the world", while Cuba was sending abroad thousands of doctors to save lives.

 Debunking a rabid urban legend

I Hate Chain E-mailsI received an e-mail recently from someone (a minister, in fact) who I lost some respect for. I thought the Christian faith was a faith of brotherhood.

I have done some minor editing of the rebuttal, and placed the "debunk" ahead of the nasty attack, lest someone with a short attention span misses the fact that the attack is unfounded

Getting a big tax refund?... yours is chickenfeed

Its The Economy StupidWhite House spokeswoman Claire Buchan said the president and vice president join 109 million other Americans also benefiting from the tax cuts.

If she said lead she might have been closer to the truth

The Bush's went from 31% in 2002 to 28% lets see... 3% of $822,126, that's a measely $24,663

Was a little better for Halliburton's Cheney. He went from 29% for 2002 to 20% in 2003-- check it out how does your tax cut compare to a whopping $117,000.00 ?? (9% of $1.3 mil).

...must be nice to have friends in high places
